Content Options

Content Header

If any of these options are selected, a special header appears at the top of your email newsletter.

View as Web Page
This link opens your email newsletter as an online web page hosted by MyNewsletterBuilder for recipients who want to view your e-newsletter in a web browser instead of an email program.

Subscribe
This link allows readers to Subscribe themselves to your newsletter. This is particularly important for forwarded newsletters. You can grow your subscriber lists by referrals automatically, without having to collect and type in new subscriber information.

Send to a Friend
This link allows readers to forward your email newsletters to friends, family, and colleagues through our system, without losing your email newsletter layout or truncating your message, which can happen with forwarding through different email service providers.

Safe Sender Message
With this option, you can remind your readers that you are the sender and request that they add you to their safe sender list. This is recommended for professional newsletters, personal email lists and any other email lists of individuals who want to hear from you personally and will recognize your name. Not everyone has a safe sender list, but those that do will know how to act on this reminder so that your emails stay out of their spam folders.

Website
This option puts a link with your business or organization name that links to your website. This is recommended for professional newsletters, personal email lists and any other email lists of individuals who want to hear from you personally and will recognize your name.

Preferences
This link allows Subscribers to update their subscription preferences and contact information. This is helpful for maintaining Subscribers and reducing Unsubscribes and Spam complaints.

Header Background Color
The default color is light yellow (#FFFF99). To change this, click the color swatch to open the Color Picker. Click the square or drag the circle from the top left corner to darken the color or increase saturation. Move the slider down the rainbow to change the color hue. Click the “X” in the top right corner when you’re done.

Header Font Color
The default color is black. To change this, click the color swatch to open the Color Picker. Click the square or drag the circle from the bottom left corner to lighten the color or increase saturation. Move the slider down the rainbow to change the color hue. Choose a font color that can be read easily against the background you have selected.

Modify the content above using Custom Content Header Text
This option hides or displays the following section, giving you the ability to edit or alter the text displayed for each option above.

Custom Content Header Text

Edit the text displayed in the Content Header. For better anti-spam compliance, international and multilingual lists may want to include multiple languages. Consider including the existing English version as one of the language option to reduce spam complaints from third-party mail server administrators.

We suggest putting HTML line breaks between translations by typing these characters: <br />.

Safe Sender Message
You can put any text here. There is no clickable link for this text. The default text is a request for recipients to add your email address to their safe sender list. Not all recipients use email programs that have a safe sender list, but, for those that do, being on the list is an invitation to by-pass bulk mail filters.

Link Tracking

By default, this setting matches whatever is selected under My Account > Settings > Tracking and Analytics. If enabled when Sent, you will be able to track Clicked links from Sent email newsletters under My Reports > My Newsletters.

If disabled, you will not see Click-through data in reports for this newsletter. You will still have access to Opens, Bounces, Subscribe, and Unsubscribe data.

Google Analytics Tracking

By default, this setting matches whatever is selected under My Account > Settings > Tracking and Analytics. If enabled when Sent, Google Analytics Tracking allows you to see which subscribers visit your website and what they do once they arrive.

If you have previously added Google Analytics Tracking tags to your links or want to use your own custom tags (not the automatic tags) for some or all of your links, you may disable Google Analytics Tracking for this newsletter or leave domains off the Domains list under My Account > Settings > Tracking and Analytics.

Domains for Google Analytics Tracking – mynewsletterbuilder.com, for example.
Under My Account > Account Settings > Tracking & Analytics, you may add as many domains as you wish for automated Google Analytics Tracking. Domains must be on their own lines with no protocol (no http://) at the beginning and no path or filename (/whatever/whatever.html) at the end. Domains must contain a period and may not begin or end with a period.

For example, www.google.co.uk, google.co.uk, and co.uk will work in this field for any link included in the domain, but .com or com will not work.

You can use a domain to include subdomains. For example, jukeboxalive.com will include links to username.jukeboxalive.com.

How does Google Analytics Tracking work?

MyNewsletterBuilder Google Analytics Tracking automatically adds tags to the end of your email links that do not interfere with the link content (unless you have already manually added Google Analytics Tracking tags to these links).

These tags are read by the Google Analytics Tracking (GAT) script you have added to your website.

To use Google Analytics Tracking on your own website, you will need to install the tracking script. Please see the Getting Started Guide under Analytics Help at Google Help > Analytics Help.

Many websites already have Google Analytics Tracking installed. If you have questions about whether Google Analytics Tracking is installed on a website you are linking to, please ask the webmaster. You can also view the page source for the website homepage and search for "_gat", "google-analytics" or "_utm". Google recommends that the tracking code get installed near the bottom of the page.

How are the Google Analytics Tracking tags set with MyNewsletterBuilder?

For every link pointing within a domain that you specify, MyNewsletterBuilder adds the following tags:

  • utm_medium=email – always the same.
  • utm_source=MyNewsletterBuilder – always the same.
  • utm_content=email@example.com – unique to each subscriber.
  • utm_campaign=The+Newsletter+Subject – unique for each sent email newsletter.
  • utm_term=The+Link+Text – unique for a link within an email newsletter.

Default Data Online

To protect subscriber privacy online, View as Web Page either omits all personal subscriber data or substitutes placeholder data as seen when you Preview your newsletters With Data. This is important if you are using Subscriber Tokens like #first_name# to automatically insert subscriber data into the text of your email messages.

For example, if you type “Hi #first_name#!” to email-merge subscriber first names into your newsletters, you have the option here to Omit Data online so that the online version reads “Hi !” or to Show Default Data online so that the online version reads “Hi FirstName!”
